About Our Council
The Council is named for St. Joseph, Husband of Mary, Roman Catholic Church. The Council was founded on July 6,1990, when District Deputy No. 6 Dale Shoemaker called the Council to order. District Deputy Shoemaker appointed Skip Borrows as Acting Grand Knight. The Founding Members of the Council consisted of 35 Knights: 14 new Knights, 2 reinstatements, and 19 transfers from other councils. The Team from St. Jude's Council No. 9102 exemplified the First Degree to the new members. Distinguished observers of the Exemplification included Past State Deputy Kay DeNeal, three currently serving State Officers, and District Deputy No. 5. Twelve days later, the Acting Grand Knight called for election of officers for the newly formed Council. Under the direction the District Deputy, the newly elected Council officers were installed.

At the meeting on August 1, 1990, the Council's dedication to Our Lady was emphasized by incorporating a decade of the Rosary into the closing prayers at every business meeting. Past State Deputy Kay DeNeal officially transferred his membership to the Council. It was decided to extend Charter Membership until close of business on September 6, 1990. The By-Laws Committee was established, and the Monthly Newsletter was inaugurated.

A dedication to community service was established early. In October, the first "Tootsie Roll" drive for the benefit of the mentally challanged was organized, with each Knight donating two hours of his time to the drive. Also, a Basketball Free-Throw contest for boys 10 to 14 was organized, with potential for advancement to the District, State, and National levels. In November, the Council donated $100 to the Larry Roulette Fund benefiting the children of servicemen at Fort Bliss.

Meetings were initially held in the modular building that also served as the church. Early in 1991, Father Francis Vivona presented a tentative plan for a new 10,300 square foot structure that would be a combination church and multi-purpose building. The Council committed to assist in raising the needed funds—nearly a million dollars. By March 1991, the Council pledged $10,000 toward construction of the new building and presented it in a letter to Pastor Fr. Joe Anthony. In addition, the Council pledged to donate the funds for the new Parish kitchen, about $22,000. By June, 1991, the Council was assisting with the building fund campaign, outdoor Mass, dance, and celebration. The Council even donated the gold and silver ground breaking shovels.

The Council continues to work closely with the Parish and Clergy, providing funds and manpower for various projects, functions, and committees. Council members are active participants in the parish.
